Dr. Coombs was born in Oregon and raised in northern Utah. Growing up, he worked in his father’s orthodontic office from the age of 13. Holding just about every position there is in an orthodontic practice, Dr. Coombs grew to love helping patients obtain their best smile. He and two of his siblings were each inspired to pursue careers in the dental profession.
Dr. Coombs attended Utah State University where he competed with the USU ski and soccer teams. He attended dental school at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco. He graduated in the top 5% of his class and was inducted into the TKO dental honor society for his scholastic achievements in dental school. He was also inducted into the distinguished OKU National Dental Honor Fraternity for his accomplishments in patient care and academics. After graduating from dental school in 2005, he received his orthodontic training at Temple University in Philadelphia where he completed a residency in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. He earned a Master’s degree in oral biology from Temple University and a certificate in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics with his thesis project involving a study of the Invisalign system. Dr. Coombs had a private orthodontic practice in Anchorage, Alaska for seven years before transitioning to our warmer climate in 2014.
Dr. Coombs is a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists, New Mexico Dental Association and the New Mexico Association of Orthodontists.
Dr. Coombs and his wife, Cathie, have been married since 2001 and have six children: Colter, Emi, Corbin, Dax, Lena and Neil. He and his family have come to love Las Cruces and have already become active members of our community through church, youth activities and clubs.
